About the pilates method
“It is the mind itself that shapes the body”
Although the number of people practicing Pilates is growing every day, most people still do not know that Pilates is much more than an exercise method.
The two books by the inventor of Pilates, Joseph Hubertus Pilates, “Your Health” and “Return to Life through Contrology”, are literally century-old pro-age manuals in which the author warns us about the importance of holistic approach to health through proper breathing, nutrition, good rest and adequate exercise.
This brilliant man, who studied human anatomy, martial arts, yoga, and animal movement, developed his own exercise program called Controlology, which contained three original principles: the health of the body, the balance of body and mind, and proper breathing.
From the ballerinas and actresses who fell in love with this form of exercise in Joseph’s New York studio in the 1960s,to today’s elite athletes for whom it has become an integral part of their training, to the kinesiotherapists who increasingly use it as a rehabilitation modality, Pilates has slowly but surely made a name for itself over the past century.
Using systematically selected exercises and breathing techniques, Pilates improves strength, mobility and flexibility, and restores the body’s balance necessary for safe movement.
